9.315 kilometres from Schwerin to Port Louis
We are embarking on a competition trip to Mauritius in September 2025. This is a huge project for us, which we want to fill with meaning and sustainability alongside our music. We would like to make a small contribution to familiarising ourselves with and supporting the music culture in Mauritius.
But we can’t walk to Mauritius, can we?
Such a long flight certainly presents us with some challenges, not least from an ecological point of view. When, during a lively discussion, one of the singers pointed out that we couldn’t walk to Mauritius, the question arose as to whether this might not be possible after all. 9,315 kilometres corresponds with the distance as the crow flies from our home town of Schwerin to the Mauritian capital Port Louis.
The decision was quickly made:
Symbolically, we want to run this distance together as a choir.
There are exactly 235 days from the starting signal to our departure on 23 September, which corresponds to approx. 40 kilometres, a kind of marathon per day, which we want to cover as a choir.
Musical theatre for the whole family
The Berlin-based association Freunde der Opera Mauritius e.V. (Friends of Opera Mauritius) brought to our attention a fantastic and appealing local musical theatre project for the whole family. Participation in cultural and music programmes in Mauritius is much more difficult due to the low density of offers. This makes initiatives such as the one mentioned all the more important.
We would like to support the next production of the project entitled The Dodo and the Pirate Boy. The project offers a low-threshold introduction to the world of musical theatre and is performed with enthusiasm and passion by local actors.
